Argentina v. Switzerland
Tuesday, July 1st | 5PM BST/12PM EST
Television Listings | Full Schedule
After getting off to a slow start in Group E, Switzerland found their form in the final match and demolished Honduras to qualify for the Round of 16 on the strength of a hat trick by rumoured Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri. The 22-year-old attacker will need a similar performance today if the Swiss are to advance, as he will be expected to provide the main attacking outlet for a side that will set up defensively, seeking to frustrate Argentina and draw the game out.
The fear for Argentina fans will be that their side hasn't looked especially solid at the back at times, particularly late in matches when their opponents have pushed them hard. On the other hand, they handily won their group with maximum points and are one of the tournament's favourites. They also have arguably the best attack at the World Cup thanks to Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero, and Angel di Maria. It's a quartet that will be favoured to break down the defensive Swiss sooner or later, but there will be gaps at the back for their opponents to try and exploit on the counter.
