Round of 16

For all of Group D's supposed pedigree--Uruguay, Italy, and England have storied histories--it was Costa Rica who emerged as the winner, with a dominant 3-1 over Uruguay in their opener and a narrow 1-0 victory over Italy. The finale with England meant nothing, with the top spot already secured, and they now have a good chance to progress to the quarterfinals with a favorable draw.

It's also a somewhat ugly draw, however, as Greece aren't necessarily around because they've played some scintillating stuff. They're at this point because they know how to survive; Colombia raced past them on the first day of group play, but a 0-0 draw with Japan kept them alive. They managed to score twice against Cote d'Ivoire, with Georgios Samaras getting the winner from the spot in stoppage time. It won't be pretty if they do, but Greece have to feel they've got a chance to get the result here.
