Group D

It could end up being Steven Gerrard's final match for England—though he won't start. And it's a chance for Costa Rica to earn a ridiculously unlikely perfect score in group play, with everybody's pick to finish last in Group D now favourites to finish first thanks to a three point and +3 goal differential advantage over Italy and three points and +4 over Uruguay. Neither fact, though, should keep viewers away from the Italy v. Uruguay match, which looks to be both the group's and the day's clear headliner to decide who advances in second.

Though Gerrard won't start in his match, Luis Suarez will against Italy, as the two giants battle it out for a chance to face the winner of Group C—likely to be Colombia—in the round of 16. Uruguay looked terrible in their first match when they faced Costa Rica, but then Costa Rica upset Italy to take a bit of the sting out of that first result for the South Americans. On paper, it's Italy who will be favourites today. Suarez, though, won't much be concerned with which side is better on paper, and as the World's in form attacker, it would hardly surprise if a moment or two of magic from him handed Uruguay the win.
