Club vice-captain Jordan Henderson was instrumental in Liverpool's impressive victory over a stubborn and enterprising Burnley side.

Liverpool 2 Henderson 29', Sturridge 51'
Burnley 0

Liverpool went into the game on the back of a thrilling home victory against Manchester City and have been in excellent form domestically. West Ham, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, and Manchester City are five tough fixtures to play in succession, but Liverpool collected an impressive thirteen points from fifteen available. With games against Swansea City, Manchester United, and Arsenal to come, this game was the midpoint in a tough Premier League schedule for Brendan Rodgers' side. Recent draws at Manchester City and Chelsea have underlined the danger Sean Dyche's side pose to the bigger sides.

Daniel Sturridge came in for Lazar Marković as Raheem Sterling moved to the right presumably to keep Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana in the same attacking midfield positions they featured in the victory over the reigning Premier League champions. Consolidating on big victories can be one of the hardest feats for a Premier League side with designs on maintaining momentum or building consistency. Liverpool's victory over Burnley was an example of a focused side managing to best an opponent that was determined not to give silly gifts away or kick their heels cursing bad lack. The midweek matches saw each team in the top seven win with varying degrees of comfort, but Liverpool are in exceptional form.

The match began with an early chance for Daniel Sturridge right from kick-off and Liverpool created a number of chances in the first half. The tempo was at the right level to force the visitors into a relatively low block, and the home side controlled the ball for much of the game. Control of the proceedings was established early on, and Daniel Sturridge combined with Raheem Sterling to release the ball for Henderson to shoot from outside the area. Tom Heaton, however, was equal to the task. It was a warning of what Liverpool could do with space for players to move into, and although Daniel Sturridge missed a number of chances in the first half and was a bit sloppy, his movement was dangerous as usual.

Liverpool took the lead through another excellent strike from Jordan Henderson. Philippe Coutinho scored two great goals in consecutive league games against Southampton and Manchester City, now it was Henderson's turn to go on a streak of his own. The Brazilian was predictably involved in the moments leading up to the goal, as he looked to find space to shoot on his right by producing a magical dribble into the box. After his shot was blocked, Henderson hammered the ball from the edge of the area past the busy Burnley goalkeeper. The Brazilian magician nearly doubled Liverpool's lead soon after with a wickedly curling shot from outside the area that flashed just wide. The chances kept coming in the first half with Coutinho at the heart of it. Liverpool's number ten later played in Daniel Sturridge for a on-on-one with Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton, but Sturridge couldn't beat the goalkeeper.

Doubling a deserved lead was always going to be a priority for Rodgers' team talk at half-time, especially as Liverpool should have finished the half at least two goals up. This Liverpool side is managing to control games, defend well, and make leads count. It was no surprise when the Premier League's in-from side found a second after a counter attack down the right, a fruitful area for Liverpool in the game, where Jordan Henderson picked out Daniel Sturridge with a lovely flighted pass for the striker to double Liverpool's advantage with his head.

There were a few troubling moments for Liverpool's defence as Burnley did not give up the fight and competed with distinction. Liverpool had to be alert to see off the game and registered an creditable clean sheet against the type of side that belongs in the Premier League. Danny Ings was full of movement and effort, Jason Shackell was determined in defence, and Tom Heaton was a reliable presence in goal who wasn't going to give away silly goals through nonsensical decision-making under pressure. Sean Dyche often plays the same side and knows exactly what he'll get from them. They have a tough run coming up, but a side that tries to play football and fights fairly is one that will hopefully be around next season.

The victory over Burnley was Liverpool's fourth league win in a row and Merseyside's finest are unbeaten in twelve Premier League matches, a feat only equalled by Manchester City and only bettered by Chelsea. Liverpool's victories haven't been accompanied by luck or turgid, unattractive football that proves to be frightfully inadequate against the first decent league side presented as opposition. Victories against Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, and Manchester City attest to that. There may have been fortune against Southampton, but performances in the other games indicates that Liverpool can compete when the level of opposition increases.

Manchester United and Arsenal are seen as Liverpool's biggest rivals for a top four spot with slender leads over last surprise package in the title race. However, Southampton are merely two points behind Liverpool and Tottenham trail Liverpool by four points with a game in hand to be played this Saturday. There are only ten games left and Manchester United play other members of the top seven in fifty percent of those games compared with thirty percent for the other top four challengers.

Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho, and Martin Skrtel were excellent. Skrtel generally played and looked like an experienced head, Can just keeps on owning various positions on the field, Coutinho makes Liverpool tick in the final third, and Henderson displayed creativity, composure, passing range, positioning, and shooting ability befitting a midfielder entering his prime years. Another win, another clean sheet, and another display of controlling the game. Liverpool are on a roll.

With a deserved 2-0 victory over Burnley in the books, we want to know how you would rank Liverpool's performers and who your Man of the Match was.

Strong performances all around marked another good night for Liverpool, with the only real negative being that they probably should have scored four or five. Pushed on by solid midfield play across the board and with Simon Mignolet again looking confident in goal, though, the match was never in doubt, helping Liverpool to keep pace with their top four rivals.

Now let us know how you saw it. Clicking the thumbs up button is a vote to move the player up the list—or to help keep them on top. Hitting thumbs down is a vote to push that player closer to the bottom. It's half Man of the Match poll and half player rankings, and we want to use it to find out who you think played well after each Liverpool match and, at the other end, who you'd maybe like to see given the next game off.

At the end of the month we'll go back through the results of that month's Ranker polls to hold a Player of the Month vote. Then, at the end of the season, the monthly results will help to determine The Liverpool Offside's Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season.

Free-flowing Liverpool beat Burnley with ease.

Liverpool 2 Henderson 29', Sturridge 51'
Burnley 0

Pre-match thoughts: Brendan Rodgers picked a strong starting eleven with Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, and Adam Lallana all involved. Without Jordon Ibe or Lazar Markovic, there were some questions about who would play the right wing back position, with the logical choice seeming to be either Lallana or Sterling.

Liverpool came very close to scoring just 25 seconds into the match. After a complex bit of interplay around the Burnley area, Sturridge hit a near post shot that was barely tipped wide for a corner.

There was lots of fluidity from Liverpool's counter attack in the early going, with the ball pinging around quickly and Burnley left on the back foot.

Burnley survived Liverpool's initial push over the first ten minutes, and the game settled down a bit. However, Liverpool still looked dangerous whenever they gained possession.

Sterling was the player occupying the right wing back role, and he seemed to flit in and out of the first part of the game in his wide position.

In the 24th minute, Henderson hit a first time effort from just outside the box that was pushed wide for yet another Liverpool corner.

Henderson! A gorgeous half-volley screamed into the net to put Liverpool 1-0 up! Coutinho went on a winding run into the box, and his blocked shot bounced in front of Henderson who made no mistake with his finish.

Sturridge was put clear through on goal by Coutinho but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Tom Heaton. It was a great run by Sturridge, but one would have expected him to do better with his finish.

Halftime thoughts: Overall, it was a great first half for the Reds. They only scored one but could have easily had two or three, and were in total control throughout. With both Manchester United and Arsenal locked in ties, it looked very possible that Liverpool could at least draw even with a top four position by the end of the day.

Liverpool started the second half in the same manner that they began the first, but this time the positive play resulted in a goal. It was Sturridge who put the Reds 2-0 ahead, as he headed a Henderson cross past Heaton to the near post.

Burnley worked hard to sneak back into the game, but the Liverpool defense held strong during a period of sustained possession.

Kolo Toure replaced Alberto Moreno amid a lull in an otherwise fast-paced match.

Liverpool showed a high level of energy even in the final ten minutes of the match.

Full-time thoughts: This was a strong team performance for Liverpool. Henderson was the star man with a goal and an assist, but most of the squad contributed to the win. Sterling did well in the right wing back position, and Skrtel anchored the defense well.

After an emotional win on Sunday, Liverpool try to keep their forward momentum going against a Burnley side hopeful of springing an upset and adding some desperately needed points to their Premier League tally.

With Southampton winning yesterday and the other top four contenders all in action today, three points are all but necessary for Liverpool in their pursuit of Champions League qualification. They'll have to earn it against a Burnley side that have proven difficult to beat away from home under Sean Dyche, and while they're currently set for the drop, they're more than capable of taking points off Liverpool in what's sure to be another exciting night at Anfield.

Five questions to pass the time as we wait for kick off from Anfield.

1) Who is the odd man out of Emre Can, Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, and Kolo Toure if Brendan Rodgers goes with a back three?

2) If Jordan Henderson's ankle isn't improved, who pairs wee Joe Allen in midfield?

3) Who of Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, and Adam Lallana start the game?

4) How many strikers will be on Liverpool's bench at the start of the match?

5) How many yellow cards will be given out?

Looking to keep up their momentum from the 2-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday, Liverpool host Burnley on Wednesday night at Anfield.

With European competition no longer on the calendar, Liverpool's fixture list suddenly has far more space, and after the next few days, they'll have a bit of time for recovery in a season that's already seen them surpass the total number of fixtures in the 2013-2014 season. They've coped well during their most congested period, but additional time can only be a good thing for a squad whose injuries, while mostly minor, have stacked up at times.

Tomorrow will still be their third match in six days, though, and with Blackburn in the FA Cup on Sunday, Brendan Rodgers will have to be mindful of how his squad is holding up in another busy week. He can't afford to select a completely changed or second-choice eleven, of course, as Liverpool's recent successes in the Premier League mean that every point is crucial in the race for a top four finish, but it will be interesting to see what, if any, changes he makes from the weekend.

And as Rodgers mentioned in his pre-match comments yesterday, Burnley aren't a side that can be overlooked despite their standing in the league table. They've only won once in 2015, but they have played nearly every opponent tough over the course of the 90 minutes, and they managed a draw at Stamford Bridge in a match that included a fair share of controversy.

Last time out, a 1-0 loss at home to Swansea City, manager Sean Dyche started with Tom Heaton in goal, Kieran Trippier, Jason Shackell, Ben Mee, and Michael Keane in defense, Michael Kightly, David Jones, George Boyd, and Scott Arfield in the midfield, and Liverpool target Danny Ings leading the line with Ashley Barnes in support. Dyche will continue to be without Matthew Taylor, Dean Marney, and Kevin Long.

For Liverpool:

Mignolet
Can Skrtel Sakho
Markovic Henderson Allen Moreno
Lallana Coutinho
Sturridge

Yesterday brought the revelation that Jordon Ibe had been injured in the course of Liverpool's loss to Besiktas last Thursday, meaning he'll be out between three to four weeks rehabbing an LCL injury. He'll be ruled out tomorrow along with Jon Flanagan, Brad Jones, Jose Enrique, and Lucas, with Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, and Mamadou Sakho expected back in the near future.

Of those mentioned, only Sakho is a nailed-on starter upon returning, and if he is fit tomorrow, he should come straight back into the side. Dejan Lovren was improved on Sunday and got better as the match wore on, but there's still a significant gap between him and Sakho, and the Frenchman wins out as long as he's healthy. Emre Can looks set to retain his spot on the right with Martin Skrtel central, with both in need of a rest that will likely wait until the weekend, if it comes at all.

No changes expected at wingback or in central midfield, though a shift for one of Adam Lallana or Raheem Sterling to right wingback could allow for Brendan Rodgers to retain another starter from Sunday's win. Both spent time there in the second half of the win over Manchester City, but another start for Lazar Markovic appears more likely with Alberto Moreno on the left and Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen, both of whom were excellent two days ago, in the middle.

Daniel Sturridge should start here, with one of Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho, or Raheem Sterling rotated. Of those three, Sterling would seem the most likely given that he played a full 120-plus minutes in Turkey and another 90 against Manchester City. Lallana and Coutinho were excellent on Sunday and are the preferred pairing at this point, with the latter in particular having what's been the best few months of his Liverpool career. Sterling and Mario Balotelli should provide quality options off the bench up front.

Kickoff is set for 8:00PM GMT/3:00PM EST on Wednesday, with NBC Sports Premier League Extra Time airing the match in the US.
