Liverpool Not Interested in Tottenham's Chadli

As Liverpool scramble to complete a deal for Yevhen Konoplyanka, the club has made clear to friendly journalists that they have no interest in Tottenham's Nacer Chadli as a backup plan.

With Liverpool's deal for Yevhen Konoplyanka on hold as Dnipro attempt to extort a few extra pounds for the winger's services, a brief flurry of rumours have emerged care of SkySports that link Tottenham's Nacer Chadli with a move to Anfield should the club's preferred target fall through. Suffice to say, loaning a player who can barely crack the lineup for a top four rival doesn't make a lot of sense—for any of the parties.

It doesn't make sense for Liverpool as it wouldn't provide a clear upgrade on Brendan Rodgers' current best eleven. It doesn't make sense for the player as he's likely to struggle for minutes at Liverpool just as he has with Spurs. And it doesn't make sense for Tottenham since, if he did happen to come good over the next few months, loaning him out would then end up providing a boost to a direct rival for the top four.

Sanity, though, has quickly been restored, and similar to rumours linking Liverpool to Micah Richards that were shot down before they could even fully take off, Liverpool has made clear they have no interest in the player. Further, journalists with ties to the club are being told that there will be no Liverpool medicals held in England today—which still leaves room for a Konoplyanka medical that would take place in Ukraine.
