Sky Sports is reporting on their infamous deadline day television coverage that Liverpool is in "pole position" to secure the signature of Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka. They face competition from Tottenham and Arsenal, though Liverpool was the first club reported to be trying to get him this month and have previously been strongly linked to the Ukrainian.
Liverpool are believed to be working on a deal with Dnipro to bring Konoplyanka in for a rumored £15 million. Dnipro are traditionally a tough club to deal with, but with belief that the winger's contract is running down, the time to strike seems to be now. Exactly when Konoplyanka's contract expires is unknown; it's believed to be up after next season, but some have reported it to be up at the end of this season instead.
While Tottenham were believed to be a strong contender for Konoplyanka's signature, their efforts to get Nani from Manchester United may indicate that they don't think they can get him. Arsenal's interest is obvious: Theo Walcott is out for the season, and Lukas Podolski has been inconsistent and some believe he will leave in the summer. Their interest seems to be more peripheral, however, as he's one of several players they're supposedly targeting in the wake of their failure to acquire Julian Draxler.
This is good news to start the day with. Hopefully it carries through for awhile.
