While the transfer window may be window winding down and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had admitted there weren't going to be any big last minute deals for fans to look forward to, there was still the expectation Liverpool could complete one final, minor deal before calling it a night.
That deal was to be the signing of Aston Villa's Shay Given on a season-long loan. The Irish 'keeper would have arrived as Simon Mignolet's backup, with suggestions the club had arranged a new home for Brad Jones should the deal go through. Now, however, it appears as though Given won't be arriving at Anfield after all.
Multiple outlets, including the BBC, are reporting that the deal looks to have completely fallen through, with speculation Liverpool and Aston Villa were unable to see eye to eye on just how to share the burden of Given's nearly £3M a season wage packet.
Barring any late surprises, then, Liverpool appears to have completed their final incomings earlier today with the official announcements of Mamadou Sakho, Tiago Ilori, and Victor Moses. Fabio Borini's season long loan at Sunderland remains imminent as it has since this time yesterday, while a loan for Andre Wisdom appears to have been put on hold.
