The UK's Guardian is reporting, in line with many other reputable sources, that Mesut Özil is heading to Arsenal in a £46M move to Arsenal. Gareth Bale has made his merry way to Real Madrid and that has pushed Özil out of Carlos Ancelotti's picture. Pictures have been seen on Sky Sports News with the German international in Munich and if Arsenal make this signing, there is speculation Madrid could be in the market for attacking competition for Karim Benzema. The France international striker hasn't made a good start to the season and has been frequently whistled in the few appearances he's made so far. Jese and Alvaro Morata aren't experienced back-up for Benzema, and so a move for Suarez could still happen if Madrid seek to bring in someone who can supplant Benzema as first-choice.
A lot of this is just speculation but the fee received for Özil may mean that Real's transfer business has not been completed just yet. Suarez could be a target as could any other player but transfer deadline day often has some crazy surprises in store. Selling Suarez at this stage wouldn't be ideal especially as he only has two games of his ban left and we're looking forward to the player boosting the forward line. Letting Borini go on loan would also indicate that the Liverpool hierarchy expect Suarez to stay but on transfer deadline day anything can happen, well that's what Jim White says so make of that what you will.
The respected Rafa Honigstein has tweeted that confirmation of an Arsenal deal for Özil is imminent.
