Agger Reaffirms Commitment to Liverpool "Family"

Despite the blow of losing out on Willian to Tottenham, Liverpool fans can find some comfort in Daniel Agger's continuing commitment to the club even in the face of Barcelona interest.

It might seem a bad news day for Liverpool, with the third marquee signing of the summer targeted by the club turning them down, this time in favour of London and the Europa League, yet there remain a few positive developments for fans to latch on to—and what's more, positive developments Tottenham seem unlikely to be able to undermine at the last minute.

One is that Aly Cissokho's loan-to-buy deal, first reported likely on Friday, appears to only be waiting on official confirmation after pictures of the player signing the deal and training in Liverpool gear emerged. And for another, despite interest from Barcelona throughout the summer, Daniel Agger isn't going anywhere.

Liverpool were reported to have turned down a bid by the Spanish giants before the season kicked off, though with Barcelona's lack of depth at the back and a need to appease fans who have been crying out for a new, top class centre half for years, few would have been surprised to see them come back in. Agger, though, has put to rest any thought that a more serious bid to bring him to Camp Nou might sway his loyalties away from Anfield.

"It is clear Barcelona are a great club, but I have never considered leaving Liverpool unless they want to sell. Everyone at the club are an integral part of my life," said Liverpool's vice-captain when asked by Spanish outlet Sport about the possibility an improved offer from Barcelona before the close of the transfer window on September 2nd. "I have YNWA tattooed on my knuckles. Frankly it does not matter to me if we are fourth or sixth, I love the club like it's my family."

It may not quite be enough for some to complete forget the sting of losing out on Brazilian attacker Willian to top four rivals—and now, most would assume, favourites—Tottenham, but for Liverpool fans in need of a quick pick-me-up to distract from another failed transfer bid there isn't much that could top the always honest Daniel Agger reaffirming his loyalty to the club.
