Reports Suggest Liverpool's Siqueira Bid Rejected

Despite appearing all but concluded a day earlier, local sources are now reporting that Granada have rejected Liverpool's £5M bid for left back Guilherme Siqueira.

According to local newspaper El Ideal, Granada CF have rejected Liverpool's €6M (£5M) bid for Guilherme Siqueira, with the Spanish side feeling no pressure to cash in quickly on the 27-year-old left back whose release clause stands at a hefty €25M (£21M). If true, it would mean a deal many believed was all but completed may have hit a snag.

With Everton also reportedly interested in the player and continuing uncertainty over Fabio Coentrao's situation at Real Madrid, the La Liga also-rans appear willing to hold out in the hopes a better offer comes along—or that Liverpool can be forced to up their bid in an attempt to get the deal done before any other serious suitors arrive.

The Brazilian born defender with Italian citizenship joined Granada on a permanent basis in 2011 from Udinese following a season-long loan at the Spanish side. He first arrived in Europe in 2004 when Inter Milan signed the then 18-year-old, but Siqueira soon moved on to Udinese in a co-ownership deal.

Despite the early promise that brought him to the attention of one of Europe's top clubs at a relatively early age, Siqueira was never able to make a mark in Italian football and eventually found himself sent out on loan first to lower league side Ancona and then to Granada, where he finally began to build on his early promise.

Though remaining at Granada through the coming season appears unlikely for the suddenly in vogue left back, his chances of moving to Liverpool today seem less certain than they did a mere 24 hours previously.
