Possible Feyenoord Move for Assaidi

Liverpool's ghostly winger could find himself returning to the Eredivisie if a deal works out with Rotterdam club Feyenoord.

After spending a season toiling in an unnamed oblivion somewhere on Merseyside, Oussama Assaidi could be headed back to the Netherlands if Feyenoord's coach Ronald Koeman has his way.

"I hope that [this deal] comes around soon," Koeman said to AD. "Assaidi is a player who can play in different positions — we just have to wait and see whether this is feasible."

If a deal was imminent, it seems likely that the Moroccan international would have been quickly absolved from tour duties like teammate and fellow Whoville resident Dani Pacheco, but given that Assaidi is currently in Indonesia with the rest of the Liverpool squad this doesn't seem to be the case. It's unclear as to whether Feyenoord are actually in talks with Liverpool, but Koeman seems to suggest it's a matter of when and not if, so long as the deal is "feasible."

For Assaidi, Liverpool's pre-season tour may be more about developing match fitness for an eventual move abroad than trying to impress the manager, as he has failed to earn the affections of Brendan Rodgers in the year he's spent with the club since joining from Heerenveen last summer. Assaidi somehow managed to find himself surplus to requirements in a year when the club frequently found itself threadbare, and Assaidi's predicament has only gotten worse with the arrival of new attacking talent who will no doubt leapfrog over him in the depth chart.

Assaidi made a surprisingly shocking twelve appearances for Liverpool in 2012-13, but at twenty-four he's likely looking for more playing time than he's ever going to receive at Liverpool. For those who occasionally remember he exists, none would likely be opposed to a move elsewhere.
