Liverpool Sign Spanish Starlet

Liverpool are still waiting on international clearance, but it turns out they did signs one player on deadline day: a 17-year-old attacking midfielder from Villarreal named Madger.

Everyone thought Liverpool hadn't made any signings on transfer deadline day. It turns out everyone was wrong. The club actually managed to complete a deal for one player, a 17-year-old talent from Spain, but they couldn't announce that a deal had been done due to underage players needing to receive clearance to move between leagues, which takes time.

They still haven't gotten that clearance, though it's expected shortly and in the meantime now former Villarreal midfielder Madger Antonio has rather taken the surprise out of proceedings by revealing his move on Twitter.

The Spanish U17 player is in the same age bracket as current academy starlets Pedro Chirivella and Sergi Canos, who have been part of the Liverpool set up for a year now. He is likely to join up with them and see time with both the U18s and U21s at Liverpool after spending last season with Villarreal's B team in Segunda Division B, the third tier of Spanish football.

Madger only had one year left on his contract at Villarreal but had informed the club he was unlikely to sign a new one with them, and fears he would move to another Spanish club on a free next summer gave Liverpool the opportunity to swoop for him late. He has already joined his new teammates at Liverpool's academy in training.
