With Liverpool's squad getting significantly deeper this summer, a few youngsters and fringe players always seemed destined to head out on loan in search of more regular playing time. Amongst those was 20-year-old left back Brad Smith, who the club have today confirmed is heading to Swindon Town on loan.
The Australian-born Smith made one senior appearance for Liverpool last season, coming off the bench against Chelsea in December. Some may have hoped he'd be able to crack the first team more regularly at Liverpool this season, but with Jose Enrique, Jon Flanagan, and an expected new senior left back signing likely to start ahead of him at the position a loan seems the prudent course.
Goalkeeper Tyrell Belford, Smith's former teammate from the Liverpool academy, will provide a friendly face in the Swindon squad. After finishing eighth last season, Smith and his new teammates will be hoping to push for a promotion to the Championship this year.
