Daniel Agger Set for £3m Brondby Return

Shocking news on Friday evening as Daniel Agger is reportedly set to leave Liverpool and return to Brondby on a permanent deal.

Daniel Agger might not have tearfully requested an exit--there is, after all, no crying in football--but there's sure to be plenty of sad Liverpool supporters tonight. The long-serving central defender is on the brink of a £3m move to Brondby, the club with whom he started his professional career. There had been rumors of a deal earlier in the summer, which were quickly rubbished by the Brondby chairman, but it seems as though something's been worked out enough on both ends to the point that he's now set to head home.

The Liverpool Echo are reporting that Agger only wants to go back to Denmark; they mention Atletico Madrid and Napoli as expressing interest this summer, but Agger's desire to return to Brondby will apparently win out and see him back before the summer transfer window closes. Brondby supporters have already seen him in action once this summer, and now they're likely going to have the opportunity to do so on a weekly basis.

This was coming, but it's not any less heartbreaking. To say that Agger is a fan favorite is a disservice to the sentiment that exists between he and the Liverpool supporters; he's been among the most loyal players in recent memory, and his honesty and willingness to work for the club have been second to none. His leadership and commitment to seeing the club through some of its most difficult days in recent history have been a terrific example for all at the club to follow, and he will be sorely missed.

More on this one as it sadly unfolds.
