Having already been on the cusp of signing Pedro for the sixth consecutive season and Christian Tello for the third, Liverpool's attentions in the transfer market have reportedly skipped past Mohamed Diame and Ashley Williams and gone straight for the jugular. And a well-bearded jugular at that, as the club are back in for Arda Turan, keeping world football's longest-running transfer story well and truly alive.
Today's set of links tick all the boxes--player with a longstanding fascination with Liverpool, picture of him in Nuri Sahin's jersey from a few years ago, Luis Suarez money to spend, shady Turkish website running the story, other clubs involved, etc. etc. These reasons are irrelevant, of course, because Liverpool being in for Arda Turan requires no justification. Liverpool are always in for Arda Turan.
And now they're in for him at the age of 27 with a release clause at close to £32m, which lines up really well alongside reports that Liverpool won't be looking to spend too much of the Suarez money in one spot, but rather on a number of targets in a lower price range.
Wonderful player, and one we'd probably all enjoy seeing at Liverpool, but not looking likely. At least until January, when it will be.
