Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Rickie Lambert already, and the unveilings of both Adam Lallana and Emre Can are expected imminently. The club have only just begun their summer transfer dealings, though, with more to come over the next few months as Liverpool look to build a squad capable of dealing with the rigours of league and Champions League action.
"There has been a lot of work that has been done," said Brendan Rodgers, speaking to the media after receiving an honorary degree from the University of Ulster. "We haven't been resting on over the course of the off-season. A lot of great work has gone on. We've targeted players, we've signed some, and we'll have some more signings to come over the course of the pre season."
Though there was talk of trying to get Liverpool's transfer activity done ahead of the World Cup, things haven't gone quite as planned. Southampton were resistant to dealing before their new manager was appointed, and another Luis Suarez transfer saga life means there's likely to be plenty left to do. As a result, Rodgers admits the timetable has been pushed back.
"The idea is that by the end of August we'll have the squad together and it will be a really exciting time for us next season," he said. "We've got a lot of young players who will have gained experience last season and we will bring in more players with added quality so we will also improve as well, and that's something I'm really looking forward to seeing."
In addition to the Suarez rumours and a slew of potential incomings including the likes of Lazar Markovic, Divock Origi, and Alexis Sanchez, there are continuing rumblings about the potential departures of Fabio Borini to Sunderland and a return to Spain for Iago Aspas.
