New, comments

With the World Cup distracting most from the transfer market, Brendan Rodgers still has his focus on adding to his squad, highlighting the need to bring in players that are ready to make an impact upon arrival.

It's hard to be patient when it comes to transfers, even with the World Cup proving a mostly enjoyable distraction. Aside from the odd rumor here or there, it's looking like we're just going to have to wait for something else to actually happen. Two confirmed is good--Rickie Lambert's done and Emre Can will be confirmed on July 1--but there's a desire for more from supporters, especially given the number of names the club have reportedly approached in an effort to strengthen.

Those efforts can and likely will pay off, with the club doggedly pursuing Adam Lallana and unwilling to give up on Alberto Moreno despite Sevilla's attempts to drive up the price. With Xherdan Shaqiri supposedly a target as well, it's easy to see that Brendan Rodgers is trying to have his squad ready on multiple fronts, an intent the manager has underlined:

"It's one where we just need good players. The position we were in last summer was that we were losing players who were cover players and it was difficult for us to bring in starters. This year the squad will change around. We will need to change the team regularly over the course of the season in order to keep the efficiency and the energy in the team. Those players who are coming in need to be capable starters. They have to be to the level that we require to perform. That is absolutely key for us this summer."

Good players. That sounds nice.
