The deal for Rickie Lambert has come mostly out of nowhere for Liverpool, and there's certainly the possibility that more surprises are in store for the club as the rest of transfer window unfolds. Especially considering that it hasn't even opened yet. Their next signing(s), however, look like it'll be someone we're expecting, with each of Adam Lallana, Alberto Moreno, and, today, Xherdan Shaqiri the subject of formal bids from Liverpool.
Fellow SBNation blog Bavarian Football Works first ran the story a few hours ago, linking to German sports magazine Kicker, who claim that Liverpool have already submitted a bid for the Swiss international. That's consistent with rumors throughout the week linking the club to bids for a number of targets, and for many a positive move whether or not Liverpool land the likes of Adam Lallana.
There's no numbers attached to the report, but between the aforementioned rumors and the quotes from the player earlier in the week, it wouldn't be surprising to see some sort of action in the near future. As others have mentioned, he's a promising player, and one who--at the age of 22--has a chance to make an impact both now and in the future. If his fitness concerns from last season prove a blip rather than a longer-term issue, he's someone who looks to fit well in Liverpool's setup, and certainly a potential signing to be excited about.
