Liverpool Invite Non-League Striker On Trial

It may not count as a big name signing, but there is transfer news to report today with Liverpool inviting 18-year-old Dulwich Hamlet striker Daniel Carr on trial. The youngster has scored 23 goals in 23 games this season to catch the eye of a number of Premier League and Championship scouts, but Liverpool are the first to act on that interest, inviting the non-league player to train with the club with an eye to offering him a rapid move up the English football pyramid.

Central London side Dulwich Hamlet currently sit third in the Isthmian League Premier Division—one of three leagues in the third tier of the non-league system, which makes up the seventh tier overall in English football. It makes for a massive leap up the pyramid for Carr, from Dulwich's 3,000 seat stadium to, potentially, Anfield, and success is far from a certainty.

That Liverpool weren't the only side keeping an eye on the striker, though, suggests that he does have the talent to at least make a case for himself at a much higher level than he's currently playing at, as does his goal a game return as the starting striker for his side at only 18 years of age. However, if he does impress at Liverpool, it's likely he wouldn't move permanently until the summer, when Dulwich would send him off with their blessing in exchange for the league set compensation.

"If someone comes in at the end of the season then we would give them our blessing as a club," according to Dulwich manager Gavin Rose. "We'd like to hold onto our boys to give us the best chance of competing in the league, which is so tight, but we're trying not to focus on that and concentrate instead on the boy progressing."
