It's finally confirmed from a reliable outlet (read: not SkyItalia) that Philippe Coutinho will be joining Liverpool early next week, with a medical and a work permit all that's needed before he's officially a Red. Price-haggling and interest from Southampton may have delayed the deal, but in the end the club are getting a promising player at a price that's very, very good.
With Daniel Sturridge already and off to an excellent start, the Coutinho deal sweetens the pot for those that were looking for Liverpool to show some impetus in the January window. Brendan Rodgers mentioned yesterday that he didn't expect anyone else to be headed out, meaning that we're looking at a fair bit of depth in the forward areas and a constellation of options that are both promising and exciting.
Suppose there's a bit left to be done, but for now it's a pre-preemptive welcome to Philippe Coutinho, and a job well done by those in charge at Liverpool.
