It took a long while, but Liverpool finally got on the board in their first home match of the 2017-18 Premier League season.
After a period of sustained pressure, Dominic Solanke (who had just been sent on from the bench) managed to get a ball into the box. Crystal Palace defenders didn’t act quickly enough to deal or decisively enough to deal with it. They also didn’t notice Sadio Mané lurking just over their shoulder. A bad clearance opened the door for Mané, who slipped in and poked the ball past Wayne Hennessey for the opening goal.
Not the most technically mindblowing goal you’ll ever see, but it was a gorgeous bit of poaching from Mané.
Liverpool are now up 1-0 over Palace late in the second half.
