I feel like it’s been a while since Philippe Coutinho scored a goal. I don’t remember exactly when the last one was, but it’s definitely been a few weeks at least. Good as time as any to get another one!
With time ticking down and Liverpool in control, the home side was pushing hard for a third goal to really lock things down. Just before the 70th minute, they got it.
Roberto Firmino received a threatening ball from Sadio Mane and hit a shot from close range. The shot was blocked and whizzed back out toward the edge of the box. Philippe Coutinho caught it on the rebound and one-timed a shot while Fraser Forster was still recovering from the save. The low shot nestled inside the near post outside of Forster’s reach for Liverpool’s third goal.
Coutinho was taken off immediately after the goal— a planned move, the goal just came out of nowhere— but his job was done for the day.
