After beginning the season in a goal scoring drought, Daniel Sturridge has scored his second Premier League goal in as many appearances. The striker got on the end of a loose ball in the box to nod home the match’s opening goal in the 20th minute to put Liverpool 1-0 up over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light:
An out-swinging corner was met by a volley attempt by Dejan Lovren, it tamely bounced into the path of Sturridge, who lifted a simple header over the Black Cats’ goalkeeper who stood there helpless.
Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last long as Jermain Defoe equalized from the penalty spot just a few minutes later. Liverpool have more work to do if they are to gain ground on Chelsea in the title race today.
