The Belgian came on as a first half substitute when Philippe Coutinho was stretchered off with an apparent lower-body injury. With so many chances gone begging, the breakthrough finally came with 15 minutes to play.

A curling effort from the left side of the box appeared to take a slight deflection off a Sunderland defender and found its way past the goalkeeper for the first goal of the match.
