TLO has long been vehemently pro-Lucas Leiva. His rise from maligned squad player to indispensable starter, followed by a career-threatening injury and subsequent recovery has been inspiring stuff, particularly for those of us who appreciated his contribution from the start. Never blustery, he has nonetheless taken on a leadership role at the club, both on and off the pitch, evident in how he protects his team mates, creates a welcoming environment for new arrivals, and goes out of his way to support players suffering through injury.
His off-pitch presence and charm has not gone unnoticed by the club, who make it a point to include the Brazilian in as many of their social media initiatives as possible, including the now famous fairground challenge demolition of club captain Jordan Henderson.
So when the club put together a three-man team to operate its social media accounts for a few hours, the former Gremio AM was a natural choice for the role of managing editor. João Teixeira and hoverboard enthusiast Alberto Moreno flanked him as journalists and went to work.
Their first piece of the day was an interview with a Martin Skrtel who had clearly not had his coffee yet, reproduced in its entirety here.
Who is the best player you have ever played with in your career?
It is definitely not Alberto Moreno! It must be Steven Gerrard.
Are you ready for Saturday?
Yes, I’m trying to be.
Can you believe that I’m a journalist today?
No, I can’t, because your English is ‘muy malo’ [very bad]!
Thank you for your time, Martin!
Hard-hitting journalism out of the way, there was always going to be shenanigans with Moreno running point, and so what followed consisted mainly of blog posts, funny faces, dream five-a-sides and Q&As, interspersed with silly photoshop jobs.
It's fluff, but it is charming, adorable fluff, and in the end, the crew dug up a wonderful photo of the Puggernaut himself, one that absolutely must be considered a good-luck charm for Saturday's fixture.
BRING BACK THE CURLS, PHIL!
