With Liverpool's players who didn't make it to the World Cup back in training with the club this week, preparations for the 2014-15 season began in earnest. And for those crying out for a left back, Jose Enrique would like you to know he still exists.
While you're busy queueing up a few "just like a new signing" jokes, he'd also like you to know he thinks the squad looks better already than it did at this time last season, and that he's looking forward to good things in the coming year.
"Lambert and Lallana had been doing really well for Southampton," said Enrique when asked about the club's new signings. "Emre Can, as well, they say is really good. Hopefully with a few more additions, we can compete for good things.
"We have already improved the squad because we have signed players after we finished second last year. The club are bringing good names here as well. Hopefully there'll be more names, but we are really happy with the squad."
Any final say on improvement should probably wait on the whole Luis Suarez to Barcelona saga and who the club manage to bring in to replace their departing top goal scorer. For now, though, it's all positive noises and looking forward to the Champions League.
"I'm really looking forward to the season," he said. "This year we'll play in the Champions League, which I've never played in yet in my career. I'm so much looking forward to that. But we have to do really well again in the league; we have so many competitions this year."
Enrique and the rest of the players back training will travel to Brondby to kick off the pre-season against Daniel Agger's former side next Wednesday.
