Despite sources close to the disciplinary hearings hinting at a relatively short punishment that treated Luis Suarez' biting of Giorgio Chiellini as similar to any other violent act in football, FIFA have today handed down a blanket four-month ban against the striker. In addition, he will miss nine competitive Uruguay matches and be fined £65k.
DISCIPLINARY: Uruguay’s Luis Suarez suspended for 9 matches & banned for 4 months from any football-related activity.

The fine and nine matches missed for Uruguay aren't the surprise. The four-month blanket ban from all football activities, including training, pre-season, and league matches for Liverpool, is unexpected, and would keep him out of action until October 25th, which would mean that he also misses nine Premier League matches as well as Liverpool's first League Cup tie and three Champions League group stage games.
