With the World Cup ongoing and the 2013-14 campaign still fresh in the memory, it's been easy in the past week to overlook just how close we already are to the start of another season. News today that Liverpool have rounded out their pre-season slate with a friendly against Brondby on July 16th, though, should snap that back into focus.
With the new addition to the club's pre-season, Liverpool fans will get to see their first action ahead of the new campaign in less than a month, as the Reds travel to Brondby Stadion to help the Danish club celebrate their 50th anniversary. Daniel Agger, who arrived from Brondby in 2006, will be expected to captain Liverpool in the match.
There will be more than a few big names missing, though, with the match coming a mere three days after the end of the World Cup. Still, for a mix of Liverpool youngsters and players who aren't in Brazil right now, it will mark the start of the 2014-15 season.
Liverpool follow the Brondby match with a friendly at Preston North End on the 19th before flying to the United States to face Roma, Olympiacos, Manchester City, and Milan. They return to Anfield for a final friendly against Borussia Dortmund on August 10th before kicking off the season against Southampton on the 16th.
