Liverpool Add to Pre-Season Slate

In a repeat of last season, Liverpool today revealed they will kick off their 2014-15 pre-season against Preston North End on the 19th of July.

Coming as it does a mere six days after the World Cup final, the squad list is likely to look about the same as what showed up in Dublin for their post-season friendly against Shamrock Rovers. For those looking eagerly towards the 2014-15 season, though, there's a new date and opponent when we'll be given a first glimpse into what comes next.

That opponent will be Preston North End, and the date will be the 19th of July, when Liverpool head to Deepdale to take on the League One side. This makes something of the start of a pre-season habit for Liverpool, who kicked off last season's campaign against Preston, so those fond of the odd bit of superstition may find themselves buoyed by the news.

The connection between the two clubs, though, goes back far further than last summer. It goes back to Bill Shankly, who spent 16 years at Preston as a player before moving into management and on to Liverpool. Following the match, Liverpool head to the United States for their marquee friendlies against Roma, Olympiacos, Manchester City, and AC Milan.
