Liverpool aren't particularly enjoyable right now, and unfortunately for their loanees, the weekend wasn't overwhelmingly positive despite the fact that they weren't around for the 0-0 draw with Hull City. Of the nine players covered here, only two saw their temporary sides emerge victorious, and one wasn't even involved in the squad.
Jordon Ibe got the start for Derby County in their home match against Wigan Athletic, with Steve McLaren's side looking to extend their unbeaten run to 13 matches. It wasn't to be, however, as James McLean's two second-half strikes completed the comeback for the visitors after John Eustace had given the hosts the lead in first-half stoppage time. Ibe was taken off at the half along with Will Hughes, but he'll have another chance to feature this week with a trip to Fulham in the League Cup on Tuesday.
It's been tough going elsewhere in the Championship for Joao Teixeira and Brighton Hove & Albion, with Sami Hyypia's side now winless in their last ten matches after a 1-1 draw with Rotherham. Hyypia brought Teixeira on for the final ten minutes as the hosts looked for a winner, but the Portuguese couldn't create anything of note as the Championship side now find themselves only two points above the relegation zone.
Up in the Premier League there was relative joy for Andre Wisdom and West Brom, who fought back from 0-2 to earn a draw at home with Crystal Palace. Wisdom again played a full ninety minutes and has been an ever-present in Alan Irvine's squad, offering solidity at the back and increased confidence going forward. Saido Berahino got the equalizer with a penalty in injury time that was in part created by Wisdom; the fullback fizzed a low pass into Victor Anichebe, who cut inside and was hacked down for the spot kick. Oussama Assaidi was an unused substitute for Stoke City in their 1-0 loss at Southampton, and Sebastian Coates was again out of the Sunderland squad in their loss at home to Arsenal..
Out on the continent, Divock Origi and Lille slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Stade Rennais. Origi played the entire match but couldn't find the net in a match largely dominated by the home side, who got two goals in ten minutes just after the restart. Origi had been excellent against Everton in the Europa League on Thursday, but couldn't create much here as Lille's league form continues to fade. Tiago Ilori is still recovering from injury for Bordeaux and once again missed out, this time against PSG in a 3-0 loss.
In Spain, Iago Aspas came on for the last 15 minutes of Sevilla's 2-1 win over Valencia, sealed by Carlos Bacca's injury-time penalty. Luis Alberto was left out of the Malaga squad for the second match running as they beat Rayo Vallecano 4-0.
As many are already aware, Brad Smith was recalled from his Swindon Town loan--which had been very successful to that point--last week, which is reportedly related to contract issues with Liverpool. Hopefully that's settled and he can head back out at some point, as the playing time was paying off.
