There’s something beautiful about playing someone who has taken points off your team in a previous season. Georgia Walters, formerly of Blackburn Rovers, is now a Liverpool player on a non-contract basis and was on the bench for Liverpool’s win against Watford City this weekend. Coach Matt Beard was pleased about her additional the squad:

“Georgia played in a number of our pre-season games and did well,” Beard told the club’s website. “She offers something different to the centre-forwards we’ve got at the club. She’s got a lot of experience as well and we’ll just see what happens from here.”

The fact that the club have offered her a contract where she won’t be earning any wages (but might get a bonus for her appearances, goals, etc.) isn’t exactly a good look for the club, especially for a player as experienced as Walters. The 29-year-old scored five goals with Blackburn Rovers last season (including one against Liverpool) and has played internationally for Wales since 2020.

There are plenty of problems that remain with Liverpool and the management of the club but they do seem to be taking positive steps towards promotion and securing a roster that will make that possible. Now, if we could maybe get players on paid contracts and using the club’s top-of-the-art facilities, and maybe show the games that the team are playing, that would be excellent.

Liverpool will play Bristol City at home next Sunday, which hopefully Walters will get a chance to play in.
