There are wins and then there are wins. Liverpool Women have been in good form recently and put on their strongest performance all season this weekend against Coventry United. With goals from Holland, Lawley, and Jane, and two from Niamh Fahey, it feels like something is finally starting to click for this side. While every single goal was solid, the second one scored by Becky Jane in the 24th minute was a great example of passes (finally) connecting and the team cohesively moving forward in a way that was lacking earlier in the season.
“It could’ve been loads today but we are taking more chances and creating more chances which is good,” Jane said after the match. “Ceri Holland has done really well today and she’s great for us since she came in, always getting in the box and getting on the end of things.
“I played higher up the pitch when I was younger so I do know the role but I’m getting used to it a bit more now after not playing there for six or seven years. With the skipper behind me I know I can push forward and we have a good little combination going on.
“The back four are doing well too and our pressing and defensive work has really shown in the games recently. It’s great to keep clean sheets and keep the ball rolling.
“A result like this shows there are goals coming from across the park now.”
Liverpool Women take on Blackburn Rovers at the end of this month and have time to both rest and prepare.
