LFC Women’s attacking dynamo Rachel Furness has been nominated for the Championship Player of the Month award for September. The attacking midfielder has started the season on fire, scoring in all three of September’s fixtures, bagging four goals.
And if we’re keeping score, she also scored a brace midweek when the Reds beat Manchester United Women 3-1 in the Continental Cup. It feels like nothing can stop Furness as she rips through the Championship to lead the Reds’ march back into the top flight.
The winner will be decided next week, but it’s hard to imagine anyone else taking the award home after such an impactful month.
Furness was also, rightly, awarded the Standard Chartered Player of the Month for September by the fans.
The Northern Ireland international and LFC Women vice-captain is starting out her first season as a Red with a bang. She came to Merseyside in December 2019 from Reading, which meant that she barely had time to get her bags unpacked before COVID put an end to the women’s season and doomed Liverpool to relegation.
Hopefully the (very late) spotlight that has been cast on the women’s team this season will help them get back into the top flight and lead to the owners bringing in more players like Furness in the future.
Anyway, give Furness her dang prize and Up the Reds (literally and figuratively).
