Liverpool, thankfully, were able to secure a draw in their last meeting of the year against a strong Chelsea side, ending things 1-1 on December 15th. This comes after beating Durham Women in the Continental Cup and drawing once before that to West Ham. It seems the tides are turning for the Red Women, and a lot of that can be attributed to captain Sophie Bradley-Auckland.
It was just announced by the FA WSL that Bradley-Auckland has been nominated for the league’s Player of the Month award for the month of December, to recognize her contributions to the monumental task of turning the Reds around. Now they no longer sit in the relegation zone and while they’re still very close to the bottom, things aren’t as dire as they once seemed.
They may only have three goals in the league to their names at the moment, but it isn’t for lack of trying. We’ve always said that Liverpool Women don’t lack the talent to stay in the league, and this recognition of defender Bradley-Auckland’s skills is a testament to that. Bradley-Auckland is the only defender included as well, joining the other candidates in forward Abbi Grant from Birmingham City, winger Lauren Hemp of Manchester City, and Arsenal’s striker Vivianne Miedema.
