For anyone counting at home, Liverpool Women have now scored two (2) non-penalty goals and are sitting pretty in eleventh place in the league after a draw against one of the best teams in the league. We’ve talked extensively about how the team has been underperforming massively given its stats (and we’ve begged anyone listening to make a change so that the team starts finishing any of their changes), so it’s great to see things finally clicking.
Liverpool took the lead early at Prenton Park with an excellent goal from Niamh Charles, but Chelsea found an equaliser soon after by way of former Red (because of course), Bethany England. The game was a lot more even than you’d expect from the third place team in the league and the (formerly) last placed team, but none of the games Liverpool have lost till now have looked particularly one-sided either.
The one big change that did take place this time was Rinsola Babajide starting. Babajide made her presence known from the first minute and the boss was clearly quite pleased with her performance.
“Her out-of-possession work rate was fantastic,” Jepson told RMTV Women’s Podcast. “She really did stick to the game plan which then helps us to build momentum on the counter-attack.”
“I’m just very pleased with the team,” she added.
