Having endured a thoroughly terrible first half of the season on loan at RB Leipzig, Fabio Carvalho’s season-long German trip was cut short and the player returned to Liverpool when the January transfer window opened.
There were some at the time who hoped that the absence of star attacker Mohamed Salah and key midfielder Wataru Endo for the next month might mean he would get at least a short chance to reestablish himself with the Reds.
That appears certain not to happen now, with multiple reliable reports, including from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, saying he is on the way to Hull City to undergo a loan before joining them for the season half of the season.
Carvalho arrived at Liverpool in the summer of 2022 when the Reds agreed a £5M fee and sell-on clause before signing the out of contract youngster who had been the best young attacker in the Championship the previous season.
Early signs were promising, but of his 21 appearances for the Reds that year, just four came in 2023—including eight minutes of league play in two games and one minute against Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.
It was hardly a surprise, then, to see him depart on loan this summer, but in the end he managed just 360 minutes at Leipzig. Joining Hull now means a return to the Championship where, hopefully, he can get back on track.
