As was speculated last month, Calvin Ramsay will indeed be returning to Liverpool this January transfer window after a disappointing spell at Preston North End.

The news was confirmed by Preston manager Ryan Lowe to the Lancashire Post on Saturday, after his side’s win against Bristol City.

“We’ve got no information on it yet, but Liverpool are calling him back. We are just waiting on them to officially announce it, but he has gone back to Liverpool yeah.”

Ramsay only made two appearances for Preston in his short time there. He joined the squad late due to rehab from his injury last season, and then injured his knee which kept him out for four months. Shortly after that the poor kid picked up Covid and only rejoined training at the end of November. Unfortunately, Lowe and the squad had to make plans without him.

“He had been fit. The first time he went back was for a setback, but he trained every day. He came back to us in November time and the last few weeks, when he was available, his fitness was fine,” Lowe explained.

“He had Covid obviously, but in terms of fitness - it was an issue because he wasn’t fit enough to be selected early doors. He was then fit and available, coming up against Middlesbrough and starting against QPR. After that, he wasn’t and it’d only been the last week or so he was back fit.”

Ramsay will likely follow in Fabio Carvalho’s footsteps and immediately go back out on loan again rather than stick around Merseyside as he is unlikely to get playing time this season with the rise of Conor Bradley in his place.
