Two seasons ago, Fabio Carvalho was a standout in the Championship, with the then 19-year-old arguably the best young player in England’s second tier. Liverpool then moved to snatch him up on a free transfer, paying a £5M plus add-ons compensation fee.
His time at Liverpool at started well, with the youngster seeing regular minutes in the autumn. Soon, though, the situation soured. Carvalho fell out of favour and hardly saw the pitch in the second half of the season. To start 2023-24, he headed to Leipzig on loan.
That loan spell didn’t go much better than the second half of the 2022-23 season at Liverpool had, and his loan was terminated when the January transfer window opened. Now, the now 21-year-old has officially joined Hull City for the remainder of the campaign.
Carvalho was said to have had a few options to choose from in the Championship but chose Hull following discussions with Tyler Morton, currently on loan with the club from the Reds and in the midst of a standout season for the second division playoff hopefuls.
For Liverpool’s part, the priority was securing a move for the player that would ensure he had regular playing time after rarely seeing action for the entirety of the 2023 calendar year. Hopefully, then, this move pans out as hoped and Carvalho can get back on track.
