There were high expectations when Liverpool signed Fabio Carvalho from Fulham two summers ago. The young attacker made waves with his play as a regular starter in the Championship while still a teenager, and he seemed primed to make the jump to the Premier League. His first season with the Reds saw him earn some playing time early in the season, but his minutes dwindled as the season progressed.
With a stacked attacking band and a newly rebuilt midfield, Carvalho was sent on loan to Red Bull Leipzig in the Bundesliga for the year. The 21 year old again struggled to find consistent minutes for manager Marco Rose as the German club fought their way to the top of the table heading into the winter break. Carvalho managed only 280 minutes between one start and eight substitute appearances in the Bundesliga as well as one start and two substitute appearances in the Champions League.
With the success of Red Bull Leipzig in league play, and the probability of Marco Rose making more minutes available for Carvalho slim as his club tries to win a title, Liverpool have decided to recall the player. It is expected that the Reds will look to find a suitable location domestically for Carvalho. Several clubs in the Premier League and the Championship are said to be interested, with Leicester City one of the teams listed.
