On Monday, Dutch agency SEG announced they were adding Borussia Dortmund’s 24-year-old attacker Donyell Malen to their client list. He was previously looked after by Rafaela Pimenta, who inherited most of the late Mino Raiola’s clients.
A change of agents can often be a precursor to a move happening, and there’s a Liverpool FC connection here. SEG also happens to represent Malen’s compatriot Cody Gakpo. (They also represent Tyler Morton, but I have a feeling that won’t matter as much...)
Malen was someone Liverpool were reportedly keen on after his performances in EURO 2020, but he moved to Borussia Dortmund instead. According to German Daily Bild, Liverpool have kept tabs on Malen, with manager Jurgen Klopp said to be a keen admirer of the Netherlands international.
Malen struggled in his first season for Dortmund but has since kicked on, recording 24 goals and 16 assists in 90 appearances, mainly playing on the right wing. (He’s right-footed, though.) Personally, it’s hard to see Liverpool moving for him while the team’s attacking force is stocked with Salah, Nunez, Diaz, Gakpo, and Jota, but he may very well be an option in the event Salah or anyone else departs in the summer.
