Bayern Leverkusen attacking midfielder and left winger Florian Wirtz has become one of the hottest names in European football this season, with the 20-year-old German contributing six goals and 10 assists in 18 total appearances so far for the surprise Bundesliga leaders.

It’s no surprise a host of bigger clubs have been linked with Wirtz, and everyone from fellow Germans Bayern Munich to PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona, and Manchester City have been proposed as potential landing spots for a player who seems a lock to become an attacking superstar.

According to the latest out of Spain, though, it’s Liverpool prepared to pay the €90M it would take to pry him away from Leverkusen and leading the race thanks to the player’s desire to play in England under Jürgen Klopp.

That’s according to Nacional, at least, a Catalan outlet peddling the story through the lens of Barcelona disappointment, as they say the Blaugranas will have a battle on their hands both to match any package Liverpool can offer and to counter the personal appeal of their German manager.

If there’s any truth to it—and that’s an almighty big if—one would imagine few Liverpool fans would complain, though as Wirtz currently plays in areas where the Reds have the most depth it would be interesting to see how Klopp might plan to fit him in.
