Liverpool fans hoping for a bit of late drama on deadline day and perhaps even a late incoming are likely to go to sleep tonight disappointed, but for at least one fringe Liverpool player there’s a departure in search of playing time to report.
With minutes left before the summer transfer window slammed shut, the Reds announced that 24-year-old Sheyi Ojo would be joining Championship side Millwall for the 2021-22 season. It is, to say the least, a potentially interesting landing spot.
Ojo joined the Liverpool academy from MK Dons as a 14-year-old for a rumoured £2M fee, but a decade later has only 13 first team appearances to his name—with 11 of them coming in the 2015-16 season as the Reds slumped to an 8th place finish.
He has also spent time on loan over the years with Wigan, Wolverhampton, Fulham, and Cardiff in the Championship as well as leaving England to spend a season with Reims in France and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
With a Liverpool contract running through 2023, Ojo will return to the club next summer when his loan is finished and the club will expect to once again search for a permanent home for the once highly-touted winger.
