Rumour Mongering: Reds to Contend for PSV Winger

Liverpool are said to want Noni Madueke but are likely to wait until next year to move for him.

With deadline day a week away and Liverpool top of the Premier League table following their perfect start to the season — and despite today’s flurry of Mbappé speculation — the expectation is that the club is unlikely to add to their squad this summer, focusing instead on trying to move on what fringe players still remain on the squad.

That’s not to stop the rumour mill from spinning up some more names, though, and tonight, Liverpool were added to a cluster of clubs reportedly scouting PSV winger Noni Madueke. The 19-year old was subbed off as the rood-witten failed to find a single goal against 10-man Benfica in last night’s Champions League qualifier, but is broadly considered the gem of the current squad and recently signed a four-year extensions to his contract.

As such, it is unlikely the Tottenham youth product will be moving anywhere this window, but he remains an intriguing prospect for the Reds, as a speedy, left-footed, right-sided inside forward with exceptional balance and superb production — albeit in limited minutes in what remains an inconsistent league from which to judge attacking talent.

Since the start of last season, Madueke has scored ten goals and assisted six in the Eredvisie and Europa League, in just over 1300 minutes, averaging a goal or assist every 82 minutes, while completing over three dribbles per 90. Fast, strong and sleek on the ball, the teenager displays a cool head in tight quarters, both when finishing and setting up teammates, and is tipped to return to England and some point in the near future.

A price tag north of £30m and competition from Manchester United, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, Leicester and Juventus means that the attacker won’t be an easy get, but given Liverpool’s current standing in world football and the prospect of developing under what is widely considered one of the best coaches on the planet, we wouldn’t be surprised of Madueke opted for Anfield when the time comes.
