According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool FC are seeking a transfer for Loris Karius this week before the transfer window closes. The German goalkeeper clearly has ‘no future’ at Anfield.
There’s a huge problem. There seems to be no suitors for the shot stopper. Karius hasn’t played in a competitive fixture for Liverpool since the ill-fated 2018 Champions League final. Currently, he doesn’t fit in the first-team plans, with Alisson Becker, Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Karius has been sent on loan for the past three seasons. The first two were with Besiktas, and last season he was at Union Berlin. He barely featured for the Berlin outfit last season, which may be the reason why there seems to be zero interest in him.
If Liverpool are unable to move him, Karius will be on the club’s books until next summer, when his contract runs out. I sincerely hope he finds a spot where he can play regular football, without the spectre of his most embarrassing professional moment hanging over him at every turn. Godspeed, Loris.
