Back in the summer of 2017 when Mohamed Salah arrived at Liverpool, there were widespread reports that the club’s first choice wing target had been Julian Draxler but that their efforts to sign the German had seen them beaten out by Paris Saint-Germain.
Four summers later, the Reds could have a chance to bring Draxler in as a depth option for the front three and Salah’s backup with news filtering out of France the 27-year-old Gladbeck native has been put up for sale as the Ligue 1 side look to trim their squad.
As many as five PSG players will have to be sold following the arrivals of the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos, with Draxler joined by Thilo Kehrer, Layvin Kurzawa, Pablo Sarabia, and Rafinha on the transfer list and just two weeks until the window shuts.
The most interesting name on the list for Liverpool—and one that supposedly has the Reds on red alert—is Draxler, at least as The Express see it, and while Draxler’s age could be a sticking point, for the right price one would expect him to be a tempting option.
Draxler is just 15 months younger than Salah, meaning his signing wouldn’t help the club with any long-term succession plans, but at least once upon a time the club were interested in signing him. Last season, he had a goal or assist every 147 minutes in Paris.
