A month ago, a report from Le10Sport claimed that the race for Olympique Lyonnais’ 23-year-old midfielder Houssem Aouar was heating up, with Liverpool FC at the head of the queue. That obviously hasn’t happened. But it hasn’t stopped the rumours! A new report from RMC Sport (by way of Get French Football News) claims that Aouar (along with other Lyon players is now on sale, due to attitude issues in the locker room at the club that have been magnified after a 3-0 loss to Angers.
The situation at Lyon right now is obviously less than ideal, with the collapse of the French TV deal and a new manager resulting in a perfect storm of financial and sporting problems. The report states that Aouar could now leave at a lower price than has previously been asked for by the club.
Last season, he lined up primarily as an attacking midfielder on the left, although he’s played in the centre of midfield prior. This would be a great time for Liverpool to cash in on their long-term interest, although we’ve yet to see more substantial reports affirming an approach of any kind. We’ll see how this heats up near the end of the window.
