For a moment there, Florian Neuhaus seemed like a credible transfer rumour when the Euros were starting, but that rumour quickly fizzled out. Now, Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg has an update concerning the 24-year-old German midfielder.
❗️News #Neuhaus: It is likely that he will stay in Gladbach. #Klopp has recently reaffirmed his interest in him, is a big fan. FN has been informed about this. But there is currently no place in the Reds' squad. Cards could be reshuffled 2022. For #FCBayern as well. @SPORT1 #LFC

No place in the squad is a confusing bit, especially since we’ve all been all too aware of the need for a central midfielder at Liverpool FC. Someone new needs to soak up Gini Wijnaldum’s minutes in the wake of his departure, or another mid-season injury crisis could easily derail another promising season again.
Neuhaus was reported to have a £34m/€40m release clause that lapsed somewhere in May. So perhaps, this is Liverpool saying, we like you but not at that price. Club connected journalists like James Pearce have already confirmed that the club is looking at both a midfielder and an attacker to round up the squad, so expect Liverpool to continue sniffing about for a midfielder until the end of the transfer window, possibly at a price point that’s more palatable than £34m.
