Links continue in the Italian media between Liverpool and midfielder Nicolo Barella. Since his star turn at this summer’s Euros, tongues have wagged regarding his future. The 24-year-old helped Italy bring home their latest trophy and impressed last season with Inter Milan.
Considering all that, links to both Liverpool and Arsenal make sense. In the cast of Liverpool, they are looking for a player to replace the departed Gini Wijnaldum in their midfield.
However, if new reports are to be believed, Inter don’t plan on letting Barella go without a fight. According to gazzetta.it, the Italian club are preparing a new contract extension to entice Barella to stay on with them. Currently, his contract, which went into effect in 2020, after completing a year-long loan to Inter from Cagliari, is set to keep him in Milan until 2024.
The club is said to have high hopes for Barella, and much of their planning going forward includes him. It remains to be seen whether this is the truth, or Barella’s people claiming Premier League interest to get him an improved contract, or Inter playing hard ball on his price tag.
It’s nearing the end of July, and there has been little movement in the transfer market from Liverpool. Granted, Covid-19 has messed with every team’s transfer window, but there are clear holes in the team that need to be addressed in the Reds’ squad before the window slams shut.
