Liverpool reportedly want to bring in PSV Eindhoven’s Donyell Malen. Liverpool want to send out Marko Grujic. So why not kill two birds with one stone? Or at least that’s the suggestion from some sources.
Liverpool are said to have offered Grujic to the Dutch club as part of a swap deal to bring Malen to Merseyside. It would likely be the Serbian plus more money, since Grujic is currently valued at around £15m. These player swaps are often suggested by the press, but very rarely actually happen. However, that would be an ideal scenario for the Reds, who currently have enough dead wood in their squad to make a log cabin.
The hindrance for Liverpool is the interest of Borussia Dortmund, who are keen to bring Malen to Germany in order to replace Jaden Sancho, who moved to Manchester United last month.
Malen shone for Eindhoven last season, notching 27 goals and 10 assists. At 22-years-old, he’s a good choice for the Reds to begin preparing for the future. However, it has been reported that Malen’s wage demands are steep, with the player asking for £85k per week.
With preseason in full swing and the new season right around the corner, it’s likely we’ll begin to see negotiations and heat up for whoever the club is interested in pursuing. The rumours around Malen have been persistent this window, but that might not be indicative of true interest.
