Despite a solid half-season spent on loan at Liverpool for Ozan Kabak, in the end the club chose not to trigger their €21M (£18M) purchase option they had on the 21-year-old Schalke centre half and Turkish international.

Now, reports out of Germany have him likely to return to England with Leicester City—and for a fee of just €15M (£13M) with freshly relegated Schalke eager to sell to lighten their wage load as they prepare for a season in the 2.Bundesliga.

Despite the Foxes being his likeliest landing spot, no official bid has been made yet and Schalke are said to be pressing the player to make a final decision on his future, suggesting other options may be on the table.

However, any other options will not include Liverpool. Even at a reduced fee, Liverpool intend to head into the season with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joël Matip, and new signing Ibrahima Konaté their top four centre halves and there is simply no room for Kabak.

The club also have Nat Phillips and Ben Davies, with at least one expected to remain at Anfield to provide emergency cover and the Reds likely to focus on midfield and forward if they make further moves in the market.
